Why We Can Get An Uneven Skin Tone

Home > News > News > Why We Can Get An Uneven Skin Tone

We know that when your skin is repeatedly exposed to UV light, sun damage occurs.

Brown spots and uneven skin tone develop as a result of too much melanin being produced to help protect your skin from UV light.

Melanin acts like an umbrella to try and protect your skin cells.

With age and other tiggers our Melanocytes which produce our melanin can malfunction and over produce melanin.

This then floods pigment deeper in to our skin in the Dermis where are skin cells grow creating hyperpigmentation.

The more sun exposure the more pigment will be released and darker the patches will get.

Brown spots can influence how old we look and can be unsightly and distressing.

IPL laser treatments can break up the pigment while chemical peel treatments will fade the pigment and lift it out of the skin.

Certain products have the ability to fade and breakdown dark spots.

Dermalogica’s Dark Spot Serum is the first product I’ve seen get great results on pigmentation.

It’s important to know that when treating pigment in the skin it will always get darker before it gets lighter. This is due to the pigment lifting to the surface.

SPF is essential to prevent the pigment returning.

We should use an SPF everyday to stop pigment concerns.

I always say “preventative is easier the cure”.
